ACNC focuses on misuse and mismanagement of charity funds

The Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission’s (ACNC) 2022-23 annual report focused on its consultation with the charity sector, investigations and recognition of the importance of advocacy in the charitable sector.

The ACNC addressed 2,106 concerns about charities in 2022-23, with a focus on concerns related to the misappropriation of charity funds (one third) and mismanagement (one quarter). 2,652 new charities were registered from over 5,500 applications.

The ACNC is working to promote and support the implementation of agreed national fundraising principles. Progress was reported in reducing red tape for charities conducting fundraising in Queensland. Reforms enable charities to report once to the ACNC and notify their intention to fundraise with the state regulator.
