Crafting the Perfect Case for Support

A Case for Support articulates why your charity needs and deserves philanthropic support. It should be like a penny dropping for potential funders: a strong business case, explaining why your organisation needs support and what positive outcomes supporters can expect.

The best Case for Support statements include a mix of compelling stories about your work (and future needs), combined with hard facts that provide quantitative support for your claim. It helps potential funders understand why you matter and why they should care.

A Case for Support is the fundamental building block from which all supporter communications – such as project funding proposals, website content, fundraising and marketing material etc. – is derived. You will need to vary the content and tone depending on the audience (i.e. an appeal to a private donor or foundation is different to a post on social media).

Small charities could try using our FREE template and guide (below) to craft your own Case for Support, along with a new Case for Support writer AI tool to help you get started.
